In a time of constant and unregulated content and advertising, I’ve had this gnawing thought that I need to start a blog for close friends and family, uncovering the semi-secret world of marketing, how it really runs our world, and how with that knowledge, you can be somewhat free to make decisions based based upon logical reasoning verse what others want of you. The time is now to expose modern marketing techniques and everyone should know them to protect themselves.
I have a hard time saying this but… I’m a marketer. I hadn’t come to terms with this because I think of myself as an artist, a creative, a designer, a free-thinker, and never, ever a marketer. But the truth is.. professionally, my skills have been and are always used for marketing. I am currently the Brand Manager for B-Stock, working within the marketing team, before that I worked on the marketing team for Faraday, and long before that I worked in sales in Europe and practiced semi-unethical marketing and sales tactics, and on the Global Brand Marketing team at Reebok. It’s black and white from my resume that I’m a marketer, though in denial.
I feel it’s irresponsible not to take what I’ve learned and pass it on to you because it’s NOT a coincidence that within the past 3 years, we have seen conflict escalated to epic proportions within society - especially in our political and philosophical worlds.
The fact is - we’ve all been duped, every side, every person and we have to admit that to take back control. If I can help us do that, in our small little world, I’m going to try.
So, I am going to start to write about a specific parts of marketing in the simplest terms, so that you can understand what marketers do, how it can be used for good and evil and where that line becomes blurry. What do you think?
