Behailu offered graphic design and photography courses to their after-school students. I was tasked with teaching them to use the Adobe Suite and basics of graphic design. What kind of curriculum will get students excited about graphic design, primarily learning the Adobe Suite tools which can get incredibly frustrating when you first start out using them?
After a few classes spent with Behailu students, my approach drastically changed on how I would teach them the basics of tools and the basics of design. At first, they really were not interested in the technicalities of design. I realized quickly I needed to engage them more. The one thing teenagers are most intrigued with? Themselves. I made sure to incorporate self-exploration throughout the remainder of my projects with them, while teaching them different adobe tools. Quickly, the projects were a success.
